"He deserved that. He's been knocking on the door and been consistent," said winning trainer Ger Lyons' brother, Shane, after Noble Intention (3/1 favourite) got off the mark at the ninth time of asking under Colin Keane in the first division of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden (Plus 10 Race) at Dundalk.

There was money about for John Murphy's newcomer, Sometimes A Fox and he got there with every chance at the business end under Seamie Heffernan.

However, Noble Intention wasn't to be denied this time, and he got the job done by half a length.

"We can look forward to running him over a mile and a quarter next year," added Lyons.

"He's very genuine, and we can have a bit of fun next year with him handicapping."

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Oakledge trained by W. McCreery, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Oakledge, trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed the break and never travelled thereafter.
