Family fun at Tramore

Tramore will cater for all the family with their two days of jump racing this weekend, and a big screen will be situated in front of the stands so racegoers can keep in touch with all the action at Aintree.

A €25 Aintree Package to mark Grand National Day on Saturday includes admission, racecard, a reserved table at The Front Room, €5 drink voucher, hot beef roll and a €5 bet. There will also be a preview of the Grand National in the parade ring.

Sunday is Family Fun Afternoon, and a €25 Family Ticket will admit two adults (plus racecards) and up to four children. There will be a mobile farm and play trailer to keep the young ones amused, along with face painting and colouring competitions.

The southern coastal track played host this week to the latest Kids Club initiative, with 285 local children from 5th and 6th class primary schools given an introduction to racing by Henry de Bromhead.

The Waterford trainer brought along his Cheltenham Festival Cross-Country winner Sizing Australia, while leading jump jockey Paul Townend was also in attendance.

“I'm not sure if they realised how lucky they were to have Henry and Paul here along with Sizing Australia but they loved it. There was a real buzz about the place, and we've had great feedback from parents,” said Tramore manager Sue Phelan.

“The kids were given a ticket to bring their parents back racing on Sunday, so I suppose that will be the real test of how successful the project is,” added Ms Phelan.

She added: “The weather forecast is looking really good for the weekend which is also a big help. We had a few misty days here during the week. The ground is currently good to yielding, and will probably be good by the weekend. There is a lovely cushion of grass.”

Racing gets underway on both Saturday and Sunday at 2.25pm, and the entertainment continues after racing with The Waterford Jazz and Gypsy Band.
