Fiesolana is on course for a second crack at the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday week.

The one-mile Group One contest is high among the highlights on the opening day of Irish Champions Weekend and saw the Willie McCreery-trained mare finish fifth to La Collina 12 months ago.

Group Two success followed for the daughter of Aussie Rules in the seven-furlong Challenge Stakes at Newmarket and her best effort this season came last time out in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

That was over six and a half furlongs, which was perhaps not ideal for the seven-furlong specialist, according to her trainer.

McCreery told At The Races: "It didn't suit her, six and a half on a straight track, she jumped and tanked and was a target.

"It was very, very soft, softer than we'd get in Ireland, but she's come out of her race well and will go for the Matron.

"I'd just be worried if it was a true-run mile, that would be the only thing, she's an out-and-out seven-furlong horse."

Setting a high standard in the Matron will be Tapestry, conqueror of the previously-unbeaten Taghrooda in the Yorkshire Oaks last month.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained filly will be dropping half a mile in trip.

O'Brien said: "Tapestry is in very good form and the Matron Stakes is the plan for her."
