Finance Bill Heralds Change

A first step on the road to the introduction of taxes on stallion fees may have been taken today with the announcement of provisions by Minister for Finance Charlie McCreevy.

As a part of the Finance Bill, stud-owners will have to submit details of money made through standing stallions and the same will apply to the greyhound breeding industry.

While such profits will not be liable for taxation, it will allow the Government access the exact amount of money that is circulating within the sector. At the moment it is little more than guess work to estimate how much such a move would generate for the exchequer.
