Fisher aiming for more Kilbeggan success

The Streamstown Handicap Chase takes centre stage at Kilbeggan and top-weight Fisher Bridge has a fine chance of defying his burden.

On recent form one might not be looking in Fisher Bridge's direction with 11st 12lb, but hopes are pinned on the possibility that a return to the Midlands venue can spark the 11-year-old back into life.

The Singspiel gelding won here in September 2009 and on his other visit, as recently as last August, he finished second. The winner that day was none other than subsequent Grand National third Double Seven and he is not going to be facing anything of that calibre now.

Another plus is trainer Noel Meade's record at Kilbeggan, and the versatile gelding has the assistance of Paul Carberry in the plate, which has not been the case since the chestnut finished sixth to Overturn in the Galway Hurdle in 2010.

Whatever the fate of Fisher Bridge, Carberry has some good mounts elsewhere. He starts off for Tony Martin on Greatness in the Athlone Handicap Hurdle and this grey is attractive at the bottom of the weights.

The Meath man also has prospects for Meade on Prima Vista in the Mullingar.ie Beginners Chase, but this is a well-contested affair and they could all struggle to cope with the Willie Mullins/Ruby Walsh representative, Indevan.

Arguably the other chief event of interest is the Follow Kilbeggan Races On Twitter Mares Hurdle. A proven ability to act around here is always a plus and to that end one has got to be strongly considering previous course scorers Pink Hat and Queen Alphabet. The latter is just preferred.

Declan Ryan, son of former trainer Stanley, has a chance of registering his first victory on the racecourse proper - he sent out his initial point-to-point winner in March - with the John Barry-ridden Isaac Bell in the last, the www.kilbegganraces.com Flat Race.
