Flyer lands Arkle in style

Moscow Flyer put to bed any doubts about his jumping with an excellent display to land the Irish Independent Arkle in decisive fashion.

Jessica Harrington`s gelding, sent off at 11-2, had been a faller on two of his previous five chase starts but Barry Geraghty rode him with supreme confidence today and got some exhilarating leaps out of him.

He was settled behind a fierce pace early and cruised into contention approaching four out.

The Irish raider got the better of the front-running Armaturk over the third last and jumping two out it was a straight forward battle between him and favourite Seebald (5-2f) - who is owned by footballers Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler.

Geraghty had a four-length advantage jumping the final fence and his mount stayed on resolutely to maintain that advantage to the line.

The rider revealed afterwards that he had been confident of victory.

'I have more Charity bets and have napped him in most of the Cheltenham previews. I really thought in my heart and soul that he couldn't be beaten today.'

Trainer Harrington had no worries about the horses jumping despite the two previous falls.

'I always thought he was a super jumper. The first day was a novicey fall when he got in close and didn`t get high enough.

'Last time he jumped the fence too big and forgot about the undercarriage. We took him to Leopardstown last week to school and he did it very well.'

Armaturk (8-1 ) stayed on to claim third, 13-lengths behind the front two.
