Followmeuptocarlow wins well on Open debut Five time track winner Followmeuptocarlow ran out a convincing winner of the Ballywalter Farms Open Lightweight at Ballinaboola point-to-point yesterday. Eighth to Irish Cavalier in a Grade A Handicap Chase at the Punchestown Festival in May, the thirteen-year-old was making his debut in Open Lightweight company. Trained by Tom Foley, and ridden by his son Pat, the son of Tiraaz was prominent throughout, and he lead from two out, soon stretching clear, coming home twelve lengths to the good. The winner was available at 4/1, with the odds-on favourite Need To Know, who won this race twelve months ago, only managing a disappointing third under Barry O’Neill. "We were hoping that it would liven him up. I think he likes being out in a big field! He will probably go for another Open now at our local point-to-point in Borris,” Foley senior stated. "The idea is to go for a hunters chase then later on. It’s to make him happy. He had so many races won, jumping to the front at the last and then saying 'I've enough, I've won'. "He has loads of ability and he is a horse I would have loved to have had when he was a young horse. The handicapper was hard on him for being placed in races. "He makes it very hard for his jockeys. We didn't intend on him being up there (on the pace), but he just was pulling to get there. There might be better days to come."
