Fort Del Oro bids for Garrowby gold Irish sprinter Fort Del Oro sets sail for York on Sunday when she contests the Betfred Garrowby Stakes. The Eddie Lynam-trained three-year-old is an eyecatching runner in the six-furlong Listed affair after she got to within two lengths of Mattmu in the Group Three Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh last month. "We are hoping to use this as a stepping-stone towards possibly keeping her in training next season," said John O'Connor, managing director for her owners, Ballylinch Stud. "She's got a good pedigree and did very well at the Curragh last time, so we are keen to win a black-type race with her. "She's taking on experienced sprinters again, but she does look to be progressive and Eddie is an excellent trainer of sprinters." Fort Del Oro, who will be ridden by Colm O'Donoghue, takes on nine rivals on the Knavesmire, including last-time-out scorers Divine and Mubtaghaa. Lucky Kristale has been in fair form this summer - she finished a head second in a Group Three over course and distance in July - and is the highest rated horse in the line-up. George Margarson's filly finished third in a Newmarket Listed heat last weekend and her trainer is hopeful of another bold show. He said: "She has come out of her last run at Newmarket very well. She ran a good race but unfortunately she didn't get the best of luck. "She has good form at York; winning the Lowther and finishing second in the Summer Stakes this season. If the ground continues to dry out she would have a massive chance."
