Four Irish among Scottish Summer Hurdle field

The feature race on the card at Perth this afternoon is the Scottish Hydro Summer Champion Hurdle at 3:45, with no less than four Irish trained horses among the ten strong field.

Galway Hurdle hero of 2010, Overturn tops the weights with 11-10 and he is likely to go off the favourite for Donald McCain with Jason Maguire in the saddle.

The four strong Irish challenge is headed by the Gordon Elliott trained pair of Brave Beauty and Plan A. Richard Johnson has been booked to ride the former with the latter without a jockey declared.

Brave Beauty is unbeaten on her three starts over the course but she disappointed last time out at Tramore finishing fifth of five behind Takeyourcapoff.

Plan A on the other hand was well fancied to win at both the Cheltenham and Aintree Festival's earlier this year but he failed to live up to expectations on both occasions.

He did however win over the course in April and followed that up with a good effort in the Galway Hurdle finishing just ten lengths seventh to Moon Dice.

Stuart Crawford who trains in Larne, Co Antrim saddles recent Galway runner-up Now This Is it.

This fellow has been campaigned in the UK mainly and won over the course three times back in 2009. He has plenty of ability and ran a cracker last time out at Galway going down by just half a length to Double Seven.

Champion jockey Paul Townend goes over especially for the ride and this fellow can be expected to go close.

Magnum Force for Colin McBratney is the last of the Irish raiders in the race.

He has plenty of ability but made his 2011 debut over fences at Roscommon last time out and it will be a big surprise if he can win this valuable contest now.
