Third in the County Hurdle in 2022 and fifth to State Man in last year's Champion Hurdle, Lorna Fowler's stalwart Colonel Mustard put in another creditable effort at this year's renewal of the Cheltenham Festival.

Ridden by Tiernan Power Roche, the 10-year-old was beaten less then six lengths when fifth of 26 in the Coral Cup which was won by the Wille Mullins-trained Jimmy Du Seuil.

The son of Makfi has few wins on the board for a horse of his ability but trainer Fowler was delighted with his latest display.

“He was super, he’s just the best horse.

“He came back very well and I think there is a two-and-a-half mile graded race hurdle in Fairyhouse for him. We have a couple of options.

“When a horse comes down the hill at Cheltenham and you think they’ve got a chance then you can’t ask for more than that. We’re really happy with him.”
