Fraher Field battles back close home to land Wexford finale The John and Thomas Kiely trained Fraher Field gained just reward for some consistent runs when getting back up close home to win the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race at Wexford. Runner-up at Killarney last time, the five-year-old had finished third on each of her previous two starts. Leading from flag fall under John Gleeson, the 9/4 chance was strongly pressed by market leader Are You Around entering the home straight. The latter had no more to offer from over a furlong out but the patiently ridden Sellerna Bay came through under Adam Ryan to lead at the furlong pole. Fraher Field rallied for Gleeson from over 150 yards out and, with Sellerna Bay wandering in front, the Kiely trained mare got back up close home to win by half-a-length. John Gleeson reported: “She’s ran a couple of times with great credit. She stays well and it’s great to get her head in front. “I’m delighted to ride a winner for those owners, the Flynn family and Conor Lannen. They are obviously local people in Dungarvan so to ride a winner in these colours is brilliant.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
