Free Solo (15/2) registered a sixth career success at Roscommon today, landing the WTW Willis Handicap for owner Margaret Ahern, jockey Ben Coen and trainer Pat Murphy.

Bred and initially raced by the Niarchos family who were successful in the earlier race with blue-blooded Proxima Centauri Free Solo joined Murphy in 2023 and today followed up a Curragh success last May.

Racing prominently throughout, Free Solo quickened well in the closing stages to beat Four Blondes by 4.25 lengths.

Afterwards Coen commented “he’s a likeable horse. He jumped, got an easy lead, liked the ground and he kicked turning in. To be fair he stayed going well.

“He’s been around the block but this year he’s been very consistent which is a good sign for a horse his age. Hopefully he can knock in a few more before the year is out.”
