Ryan Moore was always in the right place on Opinion as he made his substitute ride in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap a winning one at Royal Ascot.

Moore had been due to be ride Rye House but when Sir Michael Stoute took that horse out at the eleventh hour due to the fast ground, Moore jumped on to his stablemate.

Richard Hughes, originally due to ride Opinion, replaced the injured Paul Hanagan on Lahaag but finished unplaced.

Opinion (8/1) sat third as the field turned into the straight and once set to the front quickened a few lengths clear of the pack, but Frankie Dettori brought the 5/1 favourite Stencive with a powerful run down the outside.

He could never quite get on terms, however, and went down by two lengths, with Ustura third and Caravan Rolls On fourth.

Moore said: "The race worked out very well - we had a nice spot. He stays very well, you could see that in the last furlong."

Harry Herbert, managing director for Opinion's owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, said: "It's so exciting - it's the theatre of dreams.

"He was trained by Sir Michael for this race and he has delivered.

"Royal Ascot is the best race meeting in the world and it's wonderful to have success here again."
