Geneticist was a ready winner of the seven-furlong maiden for three-year-old colts and geldings in Limerick.

Michael O'Callaghan 's charge had come home second, beaten a neck, on debut at Gowran Park and was subsequently gelded for this assignment.

He made all under Leigh Roche and had his rivals off the bridle passing the two pole.

The son of Footstepsinthesand began to move clear a furlong and a half down and strode away in the final furlong to score by a healthy three and a half lengths and justify 6/4 favouritism. Small Town Boy kept for second at 33/1 with Sam Langford third at 25/1.

Michael O'Callaghan said: "He is a lovely horse who we bought at the Breeze-Ups last year. He had a little setback last year and kept getting a respiratory infection and we just gelded him and threw him out and forgot about him. It is paying dividends now as he is a horse with a bit of scope.

"He is a forward-going horse and wasn't drilled for the first day and we were over the moon with him when he finished second to what looked a good horse.

"He seems to have stepped up and improved and that ground wouldn't be for him as he has a lovely action. He looks an exciting sort of horse.

"We didn't get to buy any Breeze-Up horses at the last sale and this horse will now go as a wild-card to the Newmarket Horses In Training Sale next Friday. We'll turn him into cash and buy a couple of two-year-olds to keep the show on the road."
