Geraghty back in action

Barry Geraghty returns to the saddle for the first time since taking a fall in the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree last Saturday with three rides for Nicky Henderson at Ayr this afternoon.

The Geraghty/Henderson team combined to take the opening three races on National day including Grade 1 wins for Finian's Rainbow and Oscar Whisky before the rider took a fall from Or Noir De Somoza at Bechers.

Geraghty explained: “I damaged the AC joint in my shoulder, which has kept me off until today, although I did ride in the bumper on Saturday. It was pretty painful an hour later, so it can only have been adrenalin that got me through that.”

“Anyway, it feels strong again now, and I’m looking forward to the last few weeks of the season. We’ve got Punchestown and Fairyhouse coming up, both of which promise to be great meetings," he added.

The Co. Meath native faces a real dilemma on Easter weekend due to a suspension picked up at the Liverpool track.

"I will miss next Saturday’s meeting at Sandown, as well as the Sunday or Monday at Fairyhouse. Because the Powers Gold Cup on Sunday is a Grade 1, I could elect to sit out Monday instead, meaning I’d miss the Irish Grand National. That is going to be one tricky decision.”
