Goalie scores again on handicap debut Uncle Goalie made a winning start in handicap company with a game front-running performance at the Curragh this afternoon. The Rory Devine-trained gelding had won a Leopardstown maiden last month and went to post a 16/1 shot in the Izuzu Ireland Handicap over seven furlongs. Rory Cleary bounced out in front on the Galileo Gold colt and the three-year-old stuck his neck out late on to repel Eddie G by a neck. “He’s tough, he wasn’t really doing a stroke in front,” said Devine. “We think he has improved to run to run and he’s just getting better and better. We actually think he can step up again, so it’s great. “He’s improving up through the ranks and is a lovely horse to have. “He had a light weight on his back today so we thought we’d bounce out, good and smart, and make use of that. He toughed it out well.”
