God Of Power delivers despite late market drift Despite drifting from 11/10 to 9/4, God Of Power provided Andy Slattery with further success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 3YO Maiden. A E68,000 Tattersalls September Yearling Sale purchase, the Damien Moore owned chestnut finished an encouraging fourth on debut at Dundalk in November, disappointing when sent off favourite on his most recent outing. Starting off on turf this afternoon, the son of Lope De Vega soon tracked the leaders under Andrew Slattery and improved to dispute the lead when pushed along from the two-furlong pole. Ridden and gaining an outright advantage with over a furlong to go, he had enough in reserve to hold off the late effort of Dark Leader (17/2) by three-quarters of a length. Well-supported from 5/2 into 7/4 favouritism, Zenford improved to lead after a couple of furlongs, but had no more to offer once headed by the winner, finishing another three-quarters of a length back in third. "He had a good first run, he is a big baby and then we ran him back too quick," the winning trainer, who has made an excellent start to the new campaign, reflected. "Andrew said he took a blow a furlong down. "Hopefully he'll get a nice mark now and will go for a three-year-old handicap at the Curragh on Guineas Weekend, so hopefully he can progress from that. I'd like to think he could be a Britannia (Stakes, Royal Ascot)." Like the first, the off of this race was also delayed, with Little Roy, who was subsequently withdrawn, running loose before the start. STEWARDS REPORTS * D.P.
