Going good at Royal Ascot

The going for the first day of Royal Ascot remains Good after a dry night at the Berkshire course.

Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course, said: "I am very pleased with the condition of the course. The grass has been growing strongly in the last week.

"If conditions remains dry, we could see some good to firm come into the going description later today.

"We put on some water last week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday as it has been a pretty dry June - we have had only nine millimetres of rain so far this month. We have missed the thunderstorms.

"The ground seems to very consistent across the straight course."

Weather forecasts for the week suggest that the weather will be warm today with possible showers although it will be cooler after Wednesday with an increasing liklihood of occasional and thundery showers .
