Goldikova wins third Breeders Cup Mile Goldikova completed a hat-trick of Breeders' Cup Mile victories when ridden with supreme confidence by Olivier Peslier to produce her trademark blistering burst of acceleration at Churchill Downs. Drawn 10 of 11 and sent off the 6/4 favourite, she was smartly away and settled wide in mid-division by Peslier. But as they went into the home turn just for a second it looked as though she might have too much to do. Peslier brought her five wide into the stretch and gave chase to the long-time leader Sidney's Candy. A huge roar went up from the packed stands as the French superstar picked up quite brilliantly to take it up and surge clear for a sublime victory. Gio Ponti (5/1) - who ran here in preference to a Classic rematch with the mighty Zenyatta - finished really well from way back to take second but was no match for his Gallic opponent. The Usual Q. T. (33/1) put in a very creditable effort to take third despite taking a fierce hold in the early stages. Delegator faded in the home straight while Beethoven also failed to land a blow. Winning trainer Freddie Head, who rode the great Miesque to win two Miles, said: "Winning for the the third time at Churchill Downs after winning the same race on Miesque, it is something unreal. "In the worst soap opera you can't imagine anything like this, I must be a very lucky person. "She has everything you can imagine a horse to have. She is a tremendous athlete, very cool, and has a burst of speed that she can carry on for a long time. "As long as she has a strong pace you can do what you like with her, and there is always another gear that makes her finish faster than the others. It's unreal, we still don't know how good this filly is, she's extraordinary, I just don't have the words." Peslier added: "Right now she's the best filly in the world. I can't put into words what it means to ride a filly like that. "She started slowly, but in the straight I was coming very quickly and she showed a very good turn of foot."
