Gordon takes the first at York for Hogan Gordon Lord Byron (5/1) landed some notable bets when easily landing the Betfred City of York Stakes on the Knavesmire. The Irish raider proved easy to back on the track despite being supported in the morning but ran out an easy winner of the seven furlong Listed contest. The field, reduced by three after the morning rain, were taken along at a sensible gallop given the conditions and Gordon Lord Byron could always be seen travelling strongly in behind Bannock. William Buick switched the four year old to the inside of Bannock to challenge against the rail and easily picked up Mark Johnston's front runner and won going away by two and three quarter lengths. There was a further three lengths back to the gambled on Dubawi Sound who had flopped at Glorious Goodwood just days after routing his rivals at Newcastle and this was a much more encouraging run from David Brown's new recruit.
