Gortnahulla scores for Quinlan

Former international show-jumper of the 1970s Paddy Quinlan trained his own Gortnahulla to win the Goggin & Buckley Maiden Hurdle at Cork today.

Ridden by Mark Walsh, Gortnahulla chased the leaders, improved to lead after two out, before eventually seeing off the challenge of The Patriarch Game by two lengths.

Quinlan later revealed "I actually bought this mare as a polo pony but she just couldn't take to it! Things worked out well since and she is a good little mare. We'll try to get some blacktype for her now."
