Great turn out for Jog for Jockeys

Almost 600 people turned out to run the Jog for Jockeys 5k at The Curragh, Leopardstown & Limerick Racecourses today. There was a great atmosphere at all courses. Among the well known faces at the three courses were:- Matt Chapman from At the Races, Kicking King, Ruby Walsh, Andrew McNamara, Michael Hourigan, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Gary Carroll, David Casey and John Cullen.

Frank Quinlan from Waterford who works for trainer Eoin Griffin won the Limerick Jog for Jockeys in 16.36 and was the quickest of the 3 courses. Catherine Eyre was the fastest woman in Limerick in 20.38. Eddie O’Neil won the Curragh in 16.37 and the fastest women was Dervla Duffy. The Leopardstown winner was Neil Callaghan in 17.35 and fastest woman was Grace O’Rourke.

This year we had a team element for the first time, the winning Curragh Team was The YITBA team - Gary Carroll, Kevin Blake Cathal Beale and Liam Glynn.

Fastest Jockey home at the Curragh was Mark Bolger, followed closely by Gary Carroll. The Winning Limerick team was called 'One as Bad as the Other':- Ian Hanley, John O'Brien, Fergal Lawlor & Michelle Russell.

Fastest jockey home at Limerick was Adrian Heskin who finished 4th and John Cullen was 9th.

Winning Leopardstown team was the ‘A-Team’:- Denis O’Donnell, David Cunningham, Michael O’Grady and Natalia Sokolowska. Fastest jockey was Emmet McNamara in Leopardstown, he was 4th.

Turf Club Medical Officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick said:- “There was a wonderful turn out and atmosphere at the Curragh, it’s a great cause and I was delighted to take part. A big thank you to Audrey O’Dwyer and Joe Osborne and all the volunteers who made it all happen. I’m looking forward to next year already”.

CURRAGH PRIZES

Team Prize:- A suite at Punchestown for 10 people including admission and racecards (on a non-festival day).

LEOPARDSTOWN PRIZES

Team Prize:- Exclusive use of a suite on the Flat Season Finale on November 4th2012 for 20 people in Leopardstown including admission and racecards.

LIMERICK PRIZES

Team Prize: Corporate Suite at Limerick Racecourse and 20 admission tickets (Date TBC - Subject to availability).

The monies raised by Jog for Jockeys goes to The Jockeys Accident Fund & The Qualified Riders Accident Fund.

The Jockeys Accident Fund was set up for the benefit of jockeys/apprentices injured either in races or in the schooling of horses. Income for the fund is derived from owners and jockeys subscriptions as well as stake percentages won by Qualified Riders.

The Qualified Riders Accident Fund was set up for the benefit of qualified riders licensed by the INHS committee. Again it provides for injuries received while riding in official races. Income from the fund is derived from qualified riders Registration Fees, Qualified Riders Levies, Point to Point Riders Levies and Owners Levies.
