Griffiths hoping for clear sky above York David Griffiths is hoping the sun shines on York to help Take Cover in his quest for Group One glory in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes on August 21. The Bawtry handler has been delighted with how his stable star has come out of Glorious Goodwood, where he ran Muthmir to a head in his bid to win the King George Stakes for the second successive year. A fast-ground specialist, Take Cover is a two-time winner over York's flying five furlongs and was only beaten two lengths when eighth to Sole Power in the Nunthorpe last year, despite banging his head in the stalls. "I was over the moon with him. It was good to get him back to somewhere near his best, and he proved it at Goodwood, only going down by a head," said Griffiths. "He's come out of that race really well - he's bouncing and happy. "I'll keep looking to the skies and hope for no sign of rain for the next two weeks, hopefully. "He wants the ground the quicker the better. I just hope the heavens don't open. "He ran a cracker in the Nunthorpe last year and hit his head on the stalls as well, which didn't help. "He likes York, he's won there twice. It would be brilliant. He deserves to pick up a Group One. Obviously there's a lot of competition, as well. "We've got him now where we want him. He's back fresh and well and it's all systems go."
