An early deluge has not caused the ground at Goodwood to deteriorate further than officially good ahead of the start of the Glorious meeting on Tuesday.

Seamus Buckley, the clerk of the course, said on Sunday afternoon: "We had a very heavy shower this morning which went on for about half an hour.

"Up to 4pm we have had 3.5 millimetres of rain today and we are forecast more showers this evening.

"I am very happy with the condition of the track and the rain we have had today means there is no jar in the ground.

"I will look again in the morning to see if we need to water any more before the meeting starts."
