The Irish 2,000 Guineas is on the agenda for Officer after a cosy success in the Henry Longfellow Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh today.

The regally-bred son of Dubawi and Hydrangea went to post a 10/11 shot in the Listed contest after a promising run to finish third in the Gladness Stakes at the course on his return in late March.

Ryan Moore settled the Ballydoyle colt behind the leaders today before asking him to close passing the two pole.

Officer hit the front at the furlong marker and kept on nicely in the closing stages to post a length-and-three-quarter victory over Currawood

“We’re delighted with him. He had a lovely run first time back in the Gladness and he won very nicely here as a two-year-old,” said trainer Aidan O’Brien.

“Ryan was very happy with him. He was delighted that they went a good gallop and he said he learned plenty about him.

“I’d think the Irish Guineas looks perfect for him.

“Ryan said he got there in two strides, ideally he felt he was there earlier than he wanted but he just got there in two strides.

“He’s a great shape of a horse, really mature and strong.”
