HRI Approve Track-widening Grant for Naas

At its meeting on Monday 8th March, the Board of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) approved a track-widening grant application from Naas Racecourse.

Naas will receive a 100% grant from HRI towards the cost of the €430,000 development, which will see the racetrack extended inwards by between 50-70 yards to produce a minimum width of at least 110 yards.

Naas is recognised to be of vital importance to the industry for both flat and national hunt racing, and the extra track capacity provided by this investment will secure its ability to stage both jump racing in the winter and flat racing in the spring and summer.

This grant takes HRI’s allocation towards track-widening projects to €1.4 million, following previously-approved projects at Cork, Fairyhouse, Limerick and Navan.

This expenditure reflects HRI’s on-going commitment as set out in the five year Strategic Plan for the industry to improve both the capacity and maintenance standards of Ireland’s racetracks , thereby providing the highest quality racing surface and the maximum flexibility for future fixture lists.
