Paddy Harnett moved level with Sam Coen in the race for the apprentice title when scoring on Navajo Point in the apprentice handicap at Gowran Park this afternoon.

The Martin Hassett-trained gelding got a nice run up the rail to grab a narrow lead passing the furlong pole.

He stayed on well to assert in the closing stages and post a three-parts-of-a-length win over the fast finishing Cladach .

It was a second course win for 14/1 shot Navajo Point, who had also scored over a mile here at the start of the month.

"He is an improving horse. It's well documented that I said he fractured his pelvis there 18 months ago. We took our time with him,” said Hassett.

“Paddy said he had a job to pull him up. He probably wants further and he'll be a nice horse next year. More importantly, he's our own so we have a few pound!

“Paddy is flying, he knows the horse. You just have to keep niggling away on him. We'll tip away with him on soft ground and he'll tell us when to stop."
