Hayes to ride Barry in Cesarewitch

Eoin Griffin has confirmed Chris Hayes will take the ride on totesport.com Cesarewitch favourite Admiral Barry at Newmarket on October 16.

The five-year-old has risen from a mark of 65 in Ireland in June to a new mark of 99 after his impressive recent win at the Curragh.

"He's still on target. He only got a 4lb penalty the last day so if Bergo runs that leaves him on 8st 9lb," said Griffin.

"We were very happy with his win the last day, I think it was his most impressive performance so we just hope he gets there in one piece.

"It's obviously a competitive handicap and you need a lot of luck in running and with the draw, even though it is two and a quarter miles.

"He came out of his last race very well so we are hoping he gets there in good form.

"He wasn't stopping the last day over one-mile-six and he wasn't stopping at Galway and that would be a stiff two miles, so I don't think the extra quarter of a mile will be an issue for him.

"It is more than likely Chris Hayes will ride him, he knows him well.

"We won't be sending back jumping this winter. He'll have a break after this as he's been on the go a while. We'll bring him back next year and concentrate on the Flat again."

Admiral Barry is 9-1 favourite with the sponsors for the second leg of the autumn double.
