Hectic a popular local winner at Ballinrobe Nothing Hectic gave local businessman Tim Kelly a memorable winner when landing the Paddy Smyth Memorial Mares Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe. The Hilary McLoughlin-trained mare was a well-backed 5/4 favourite in the two-mile-six contest and came with a strong run to lead turning for home under Darragh O’Keeffe. She stayed on strongly in the closing stages to post a three-and-a-half length victory over Toor Idaho. “She’s a lovely filly and she had a couple of nice runs in maiden hurdles,” said assistant trainer Martin Ferris. “The owner is from Ballinrobe and this was always the target. I think he hasn’t had a winner in 12 years and he’s part of the committee here so it’s a big day for him. “She was second in a two-five bumper so we knew she’d stay. With the experience under her belt and up in trip this was the main target. “It worked out well, Darragh was very happy with her. She jumped well and they went a nice even pace, and he was happy. “She’s rated 98 and might get five or six pounds for that. We’ll see where she goes from there but it was job done today.”
