The weights for the Hennessy Gold Cup are set to rise by almost a stone as Tidal Bay was taken out of Saturday's contest.

Last year's runner-up was top-rated in the prestigious handicap by fully 13lbs but he has been scratched from the race at the latest confirmation stage leaving Cape Tribulation as the potential top-weight at Newbury this weekend.

That is good news for the majority of the 23 entries, a number of whom could have been forced to race from out of the handicap if last year's Lexus Chase winner had made a quick return following his run in the Betfair Chase.

Paul Nicholls could still be represented by leading fancy Rocky Creek with Invictus, Hadrian's Approach and Katenko other market leaders to have stood their ground.

Willie Mullins could have up to as many as four runners with Prince De Beauchene, Vesper Bell, Terminal and On His Own all among the entries.

Ireland could also be represented by Oliver McKiernan's Whodoyouthink and Jim Cullotty's RSA Chase winner Lord Windermere.
