A trio of Irish trainers were well represented in Cartmel yesterday and it was John McConnell's stable that landed a winner through Hereditary Rule in the extended 2m5f novices' chase.

The 11/8 favourite made all for 7lb-claimer Jack Hogan and moved clear three out. He came in by a more than comfortable eight and a half lengths.

The seven-year-old gelding was last seen finishing runner-up in a novices' handicap chase at Uttoxeter last month.

This was his third victory over fences this year to supplement wins in Clonmel and Ayr.

McConnell's No Trouble (6/4f) was beaten into second in the opening maiden hurdle.

Noel Kelly picked up prize money from Light Heidi and Gladiatorial who both finished third in their respective races.

Stuart Crawford's best finish was also third through Bellaney Gem in the Class 3 handicap hurdle.

McConnell is due to run five horses on Cartmel's summer bank holiday card tomorrow including recent Sligo mares' maiden hurdle winner Bella Bliss in the first race (1.39).
