Homesman placed in Belmont Derby Homesman came out best of Aidan O'Brien's big-race raiders in America on Saturday night when placed in the Belmont Derby. The Ballydoyle handler landed the Belmont Derby 12 months ago with Deauville and sent Homesman and Whitecliffsofdover into battle in this year's renewal. Homesman came home well to finish third but never threatened to land a glove on all-the-way winner Oscar Performance. Whitecliffsofdover was only seventh but Pia Brandt's French challenger Called To The Bar ran a fine race to fill the runner-up spot. O'Brien was also represented in the Belmont Oaks by Key To My Heart but after being ridden prominently she trailed home last of 11 runners. For the fifth time in six years the Grade One prize went to Chad Brown as New Money Honey claimed top honours.
