Hughes sends two to Ascot

Dessie Hughes is not sending over Hardy Eustace to Ascot but the Osborne Lodge handler will be well represented at the Berkshire track tomorrow.

Grangeclare Gold will be ridden by Ian McCarthy when she faces eight rivals in the Barrett Steel Novices' Hurdle at 12.20.

The ground is currently described as good but heavy rain is forecast. The daughter of Old Vic is said to want good ground but should be able to handle soft now that she has strengthened up. Two miles six furlongs shouldn't hold any fears for her.

Meanwhile Paddy Flood will have the mount on Schindlers Hunt in the Amlin 1965 Chase. This two mile three furlong event will see nine face the starter. Good ground is seen as important for the nine-year-old and he has reportedly done well for a break and indeed he made a most encouraging start back in a Thurles hurdle when second thirty days ago.

"He's travelled over fine and has had some light exercise this morning. He seems to be enjoying himself," said Hughes.

"Our horse has had a run so that will help him. We'd be hopeful.

"It's not going to be easy but he showed some class in his races in the spring so we'll see."

Paul Carberry will be on Monet's Garden here whilst Voy Por Ustedes is forecast to head the betting.

Other Irish runners cross-channel tomorrow are Notre Pere in the 2.55, the Betfair Chase at Haydock and Dash Back on the all-weather on Wolverhampton for Ado McGuinness.
