Imarajan came with a strong late charge to land the spoils in the Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey Maiden Hurdle over just short of two miles, three furlongs.

The Eoin Doyle-trained gelding had been runner-up on his last visit to the course and went to post a 7/2 shot to go one better. Chantilly Wings jumped into the lead over the last, but that one's rider Carl Millar was struggling with a slipped saddle and was almost unseated in the final strides as Imarajan passed him to score by half-a-length.

The winning rider said afterwards:- “It was a lovely performance. He wants every yard of that trip and he’ll be a way better horse going up to two-and-a-half miles.

“He was going as quick as he could all the way.

“It was a good honest performance and he’s a horse that is probably improving a little bit.”
