Injury forces retirement of Very Much So The Supreme Horse Racing Club has been dealt a major blow following news talented bumper performer Very Much So has been retired due to injury. The Scorpion gelding provided the successful syndicate with one of its biggest days to date when landing the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at the 2014 Punchestown Festival, but he was subsequently sidelined for the best part of two years. He made his long-awaited comeback in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, running a fine race to finish eighth, before returning to Punchestown to finish fourth in the Champion INH Flat Race. Connections had been looking forward to seeing the six-year-old go jumping this summer, but he suffered another setback after Punchestown and his racing career has been brought to a premature end. Steve Massey, racing manager for the owners, said: "I'm desperately disappointed to confirm Very Much So's hugely promising career is over and we've had to call it a day. "He gave us and his owners a fantastic day when winning the Goffs Land Rover Bumper on his debut two years ago and we were so thrilled to have him back in action this spring. "He ran a great race after his lengthy absence in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and was unlucky not to finish closer than he did on what proved to be his final start at Punchestown. "He's a horse we felt could go all the way over hurdles, so we're all gutted he won't race again. "We'll make sure he has a good home and a good life after racing."
