Insinuendo has been kept in training as a six-year-old and appears to have a good chance of adding to her tally in the Lodge Park Stud Irish EBF Park Express Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.
The Willie McCreery-trained mare’s three career wins include the Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes at this venue but she escapes a penalty here having failed to score last year.
However, the daughter of Gleneagles ran with great credit in defeat last term going close three times at the Curragh including when beaten a neck by Luxembourg in the Group 3 Fitzdares Royal Whip Stakes.
“She’s going to race on for another year as things didn’t work out coming back from Bahrain to England with Brexit,” said McCreery. “Michael (Deegan, owner) is brave enough to hold on and give her another year and I’m quite happy with that!
“She seems in great form and she doesn’t mind the underfoot conditions so I’m looking forward to running her.
“She’s six but is lightly raced as she was slow to come to hand and still looks a big, raw filly. That’s just her make up.
“She has a great finishing kick. It’s probably a bit short for her but underfoot conditions will bring her stamina back into play.”
Insinuendo is generally a 7/4 favourite for this Group 3 mile event and faces nine rivals including the Andy Slattery-trained Flame Of Eire who progressed rapidly last year completing a four-timer in handicaps.
“The owners wanted to go for the Group 3 instead of the Irish Lincoln and I can see where they are coming from - she could have 26 rivals in the Lincoln,” said the Killenaule trainer.
"She's in good form and although I don't know where I am with her (on her first run of the season), it wouldn't surprise me if she got into the money. She’s won on heavy ground at Listowel.
"Hopefully she will have a good campaign ahead."
