Irish Derby possible for Recharge Kevin Prendergast is hoping Recharge will be allowed to take his chance in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh later this month. The colt finished fourth behind Mastercraftsman in the Irish 2000 Guineas on his most recent start and also holds an entry in the St James's Palace Stakes over a mile at Royal Ascot on June 16th. However, Prendergast would sooner tackle an extra half-mile with the Lady O'Reilly-owned colt in the Irish Classic on June 28th. "He came out of the race very well. I haven't spoke to the owners for a few days, and they decide where he goes, but I would prefer to run him in the Irish Derby," said Prendergast. "He has an entry in the St James's Palace Stakes but we will see what happens in the Derby on Saturday." Recharge, winner of the Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial earlier in the year, is a son of Prendergast's 2002 Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Rebelline. The mare won up to 11 furlongs in her racing days but with Recharge being by top miler Cape Cross, Prendergast admits he would not be certain to see out the Derby trip. "When you take Mr Oxx's horse, See The Stars, he's by Cape Cross but out of a stoutly-bred mare. There's always a suspicion about the Cape Crosses," he told At The Races.
