Irish Success at Musselburgh

Irish eyes were smiling at Musselburgh yesterday when both Liam Lennon and Charlie Swan trained winners at the Scottish venue.

For Lennon, the success of Francoskid in the three-mile handicap chase was particularly sweet as it marked his first win in Britain as a trainer and his second victory in all.

The same horse gave the Newry-based handler his initial win at Down Royal on St. Stephen`s Day. Sent off a 14/1 chance, the eleven-year-old came home a three-length winner in the hands of amateur Mark O`Hare.

Charlie Swan trained and rode Danimas to land the two-mile handicap hurdle. Supported at better prices in the morning, the son of Foxhound was returned at 7/1 and ran out a four length winner in good style.

Elsewhere, Lord Maizey, who looked a promising sort when taking a Naas bumper when in the care of John Berry, put a disappointing English debut well behind him when victorious in a Leicester novice chase for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the hands of Tony McCoy.
