Some Man was the centrepiece of a treble for jockey Rob James at the North Down (F) Point-to-Point at Kirkistown, Co Down on Saturday.

David Christie's Beat Hollow gelding had three horses for company in the Greenville Open Lightweight Race and a good jump at the second last soon took him into the lead.

The 5/4 favourite asserted approaching the home bend and cruised in by 20 lengths to improve his record 'between the flags' to six from eight.

James said: "It was an easy win and I knew he was in great form. He was making lengths in jumping and I was having to take him back.

"When the ground suits him, and he is on form, it takes a good one to beat him."

Some Man also has two hunters chase victories from Clonmel and Down Royal in his locker, and came home mid-division in last year's Foxhunters' at Aintree.

Shark Hanlon's journey up from Co Carlow was rewarded when James steered Value Till Dawn home by four lengths in the Millbank Farm Maiden Race for 5 & 6yo Mares.

The trainer said: "She ran out the last day (in Tyrella) and is not a bad filly at all. I let the young lads in the yard ride her every day.

"She'll make a lovely hurdle filly over two and a half miles. I'll probably sell her.

"Rob gave her a great ride - he's different class, he's worth a stone and a half."

Donnchadh Doyle's Beyondapproach drew clear after the second last in the Old Manor Mill Winners Of Two Mares Race to win by 18 lengths under James.

Noel McParlan doubled up on Gerald Quinn's Broughshane in the Dennison Commercials 4yo Maiden and on Colin McKeever's Iddergem in the Wilsons Auctions 6yo Maiden. Both horses took the honours by eight lengths.

The best finish of the day came in the Tattersalls NH 5yo Geldings Maiden where Peter Fahey's Sageburg County fended off strong-finishing Speed Gang by a neck. Declan Lavery guided the winner home.
