Kelly And Norton Still In Hospital

Shane Kelly and Franny Norton remain in hospital 24 hours after they were injured in seven-horse pile-up at Wolverhampton.

A spokeswoman for New Cross Hospital said: 'They are still here but we are unable to comment (on their condition) at this moment in time.'

The 12-runner field was rounding the final bend in the Bet Direct Freephone 0800 211 222 Handicap when Skye´s Folly, who was racing in fourth place, broke his leg and fell, throwing Micky Fenton to the ground.

The incident caused a dramatic knock-on effect with Garden Society, Tender Trap and Beauchamp Trump all getting brought down, while Come What July, Wotchalike and Templet were badly hampered and unseated their riders.

Kelly, who was on Wotchalike, was taken to New Cross after complaining of back pain.

Fenton walked into the medical room wearing a neck collar and was later reported to be 'stiff and sore', while Norton suffered a suspected shoulder injury after his fall from Beauchamp Trump and he was also taken to the hospital.

Kelly´s agent Richard Hunter said: 'Last night he was on morphine. He has cracked a vertebrae but we don´t yet know when he´s going to be released from hospital.'

Norton went for X-rays on his shoulder and chest on Tuesday morning.
