Kingsgate pleases connections

Connections of Kingsgate Native were encouraged by his performance in finishing fourth in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday.

Sir Michael Stoute's five-year-old was disappointing in last month's Nunthorpe Stakes at York but bounced back to be beaten just three lengths on Merseyside.

Chris Richardson, managing director for owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "He's one of those typical sprinters who put in varying performances, but I was encouraged by the way he ran on Saturday.

"He got a bump which pushed him outside and he got a bit too much daylight too early. We would have liked to have stayed covered up a bit longer.

"But he ran very well and was running on well at the finish, which was nice to see.

"I haven't caught up with Sir Michael yet to discuss where he'll run next, but we'll keep the options open and let the trainer and the horse tell us."
