O'Gorman was keen to lead early and got ahead of the prominent Paddy Twomey-trained Forthill, and this allowed the Oliver McKiernan-trained runner to get a run on his rivals. The onrushing Vervain could not get to the winner, as the daughter of Acclamation was narrowly denied by a head. Speaking after the race, rider O'Gorman said: "It was brilliant. He travelled lovely. I was able to dictate the race a bit and let him roll from the four. He just stayed galloping to the line. It's good ground, but it's nice ground, so they seem to be travelling well on it.
