Ladies Day win for Nina in the Donkey Derby

Nina Carberry beat the boys in the North Galway Hunt Donkey Derby (the second year of its running) at Galway Greyhound Stadium tonight when Galaleo, followed up his success in last year's event for his owners the Lydican Wood Syndicate and his trainers Johnny and Sean Fahy.

Nina beat Davy Russell riding Oran Flyer into second with Ken Whelan finishing third.

There was a huge crowd in attendance at the College Road venue and they created an electric atmosphere as some of the top National Hunt jockeys got great tunes out of their mounts.

Davy Condon deserves a special mention after his mount, Cha Gatley lost his chance at the start, but got going well to finish not too far off the principles.

Some of the amusingly named donkey's included Whoop That Ass who is reportedly know for her galloping skills, Beat the Burglar (according to the card comes from a good yard, well up for it!) and Catch Me Ass who Paul Carberry was aboard.

Unfortunately the traffic afterwards was a pain in the ass!
