Lauderdale King an improving stayer for the Slatterys A winner over 1m4f at Cork on his previous start, Lauderdale King had no problem with the longer distance of Listowel’s Gerard Lynch Memorial Handicap over one mile, six furlongs. The scopey son of King Of Change made virtually all under Andrew Slattery and confirmed form with Cork third Louiescall, holding off that one’s challenge by three-parts of a length. "He is a grand horse and is a big four-year-old. I was a bit afraid of the ground drying out, as he wants soft ground," said winning trainer Andy Slattery. "He gave him a lovely ride, kept it simple and he enjoyed it. I'll run him again on soft ground up until the end of the Flat season, and then give him a break for the winter. "I was going to run him over hurdles earlier in the year, but he'll make a lovely novice hurdler next summer. "He is owned by brothers-in-law Pat Morrissey and Rory Brennan, from Thurles, and they also have Parnell Street with me." Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
