Lean And Keen has proved a grand dual purpose sort for connections, and recorded his fifth win in the space of just over a year when defying top-weight in the John R Fitzpatrick Agricultural Contractor Handicap at Leopardstown.

The five-year-old gelding was part of a line of horses in contention across the track at the furlong pole, and he dug deepest in the closing stages to collect.

Shane Foley, on the mark half-an-hour earlier aboard the impressive Success Days in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes, had to work much harder here to complete a quick double.

The 5/1 chance led close home to record a half-length verdict over Beau Satchel with Bobby Jean just a head further away in third.

Winning trainer Sean Byrne said, "He handles the ground but with that weight I'd say he wants better ground. It was a good honest performance.

"He'll mix it between the flat and hurdles."
