Lee takes tried and tested route on Inventress Similar to the winner of the opening race, Billy Lee made full use of a favoured low draw when making all the running aboard Inventress to land the Gowran Park Median Auction Fillies Maiden. Runner-up on her racecourse debut at Cork earlier this month, the Paddy Twomey trained filly was sent off 8/11f to go one better. Smartly into stride, the daughter of Mastercraftsman was pressed by Lady Lilac in the initial stages. Having seen off the latter over two-furlongs out, Inventress was briefly challenged by Luscious under Colin Keane. Kicking from the front at the furlong pole, Lee kept the market leader up to her work to beat Its All Peachy a length, with Luscious a further half-length behind in third. Paddy Twomey said: “She had a lovely debut in Cork on ground that I’d say was just quick enough for her. We felt the way she travelled that day that she’d be able for the drop back in trip but not necessarily need. “We have an eye on the 200,000 euro classic here on June 2 and I was keen that she won her maiden beforehand if possible. “With the shower of rain yesterday, I thought the ground was kind enough today for her to take her chance. “The extended nine and a half furlongs will be no problem for her. I think on soft ground she’s a black type filly.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
