Letters could still make Guineas Michael O'Callaghan hopes to have Letters Of Note back on the track in the not too distant future. The daughter of Azamour ran a sound race on her debut in a Leopardstown maiden in September and impressed in getting off the mark on the Polytrack at Dundalk in January. The trainer said of the Pearl Bloodstock-owned filly: "Letters Of Note had a very minor setback, and that's why she didn't run in the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday. "She works very well, and Andrea Atzeni was over with Sheikh Fahad a few weeks ago. Andrea rode her and thought she had a lot of class. They were delighted. "She's an exciting filly and could be a Guineas filly. She's in all of them, the English, Irish, French and German. There are a couple more trials later but the fact that she's had a run this year (means) she could go straight to a Guineas. "We will decide in the next few weeks where to go." O'Callaghan's smart colt Rapid Applause was only fifth in a Listed race at Dundalk at the beginning of the month, although an excuse has emerged for the below-par effort. O'Callaghan said: "Rapid Applause scoped very badly after his last run at Dundalk. There was a lot of mucus post-race. He was clear the day before and clear again 24 hours post-race but there was obviously some little virus in his lungs. "He never ran a race and never travelled, but at least I'm happy there was a reason for it. We are going easy with him for a few days but if he comes back quick he could go for the Tetrarch Stakes. He likes the Curragh, and seven furlongs should suit."
