Lingfield abandoned after two races Officials at Lingfield were forced to abandon the meeting after just two races due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. The first two races at the Surrey venue passed without incident but course officials met with a delegation of jockeys after the running of the second contest and despite the riders reportedly being keen to continue, the decision was taken by the stewards to abandon racing. "We've followed all of the rules and regulations, laid down by the British Horseracing Authority, and ultimately it's a decision that comes down to the safety of every horse and jockey," clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross told At The Races. The meeting was due to feature a £45,000 six-furlong handicap which had attracted a high-class field and initial moves have already been made to reschedule the contest. "If we can organise it and if it's possible, I don't know, but certainly I understand that there are horses in there who don't have other opportunities for a while," commented Mackenzie Ross. There is also a valuable contest due to be staged on this evening's card at nearby Kempton and pictures posted on social media networks suggest that that meeting could also be in doubt.
