Listowel Harvest Festival: Top Owner, Jockey and Trainer for Day 4 Listowel’s Harvest Festival continues on Wednesday and we have another thoroughly competitive seven-race card to look forward to. This meeting provides excellent racing across both codes and the jumpers take centre stage on Day 4. The biggest race of the entire meeting is the highlight of the card, the Grade 3 Kerry National, where there’s a substantial prize fund of €200,000 on offer. A full field of 18 has been declared, alongside three interesting reserves. We’ve had a close look at all seven races and picked out an owner, trainer and jockey to follow across the card. JP McManus has some interesting runners, including a potential Supreme Novices’ Hurdle contender. It is no surprise that Ireland’s dominant force Willie Mullins has plenty of good chances and Philip Byrnes could also be worth keeping an eye on. Owner - JP McManus Few people have put as much money into this game as JP McManus and his famous green and gold silks can be spotted everywhere across Britain and Ireland. He’s got some interesting candidates at Listowel on Wednesday and chief among them is Davy Crockett. This Willie Mullins-trained gelding is already a strong fancy for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and he has done little wrong so far. There will be plenty of eyes on him and the racing world will be shocked if he fails to oblige. Intent Approach has a monster absence of over 500 days to overcome, but the six-year-old was last seen winning at Down Royal in April 2024. Provided he’s sharp enough here, he could be of interest on his first attempt over three miles. Both Nara and In Excelsis Deo need others to come out of the big race in order to get a run, but they shouldn’t be ruled out if lining up. Zenta was too bad to be true last time out and she has an opportunity to get back on track in the mares' novice chase. Trainer - Willie Mullins The aforementioned Davy Crockett is probably the most interesting runner of the day and expectations will be high. He won nicely on debut in a bumper at Punchestown in June, before following up over hurdles at Galway. Mullins is mob-handed in the big race and You Oughta Know heads the market. He bolted up in a Wexford novice chase when last seen and there should be loads more to come from him over fences. Spanish Harlem also represents Mullins in the Kerry National and he’s also a last time out winner, after scoring at Punchestown. Some of the key trends, including age and weight, indicate that Arctic Fly is a contender, although the market doesn’t agree. Jockey - Philip Byrnes Paul Townend would have been the obvious choice, but Philip Byrnes has some smart rides on Wednesday and they are well worth highlighting. I Started A Joke won a bumper at Limerick on his first start under rules and was highly tried after that, finishing down the field in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. This is his hurdles bow and this sort of level looks much more manageable. Smart ex-Flat horse and 2021 Irish St. Leger winner Sonnyboyliston won on his first start over hurdles and he’s set to take on Davy Crockett. Eastmore got off the mark at Down Royal last time and he’s interesting off just a 4lb higher mark.
