Listowel Supporters Club seeks new members Listowel Races Supporters Club is in its 25th year at next week’s seven day Festival and the club, which offers an attractive package for members, is looking for new members. Jerry Hannon, racecourse commentator and the club’s PRO, said “the Supporters Club is in its 25th year and is probably one of, if not the longest, running racing clubs of its kind in the country. “The aim of the club has always been to support the races at Listowel and we always sponsor two races during the week – the €47,500 Lartigue Hurdle, the feature race on the Tuesday, and the last race of the Festival, the €19,000 Slan Abhaile Race (which traditionally has attracted many jumping stars). To celebrate our 25th year in operation, this year we are also sponsoring the Dromin Bumper on Thursday.” “We greatly appreciate all the support we can get and from our package for €250 we offer 12 passes, which can be used on any day during the Festival. We have our own club room at the races, with a number of suites. Members have the use of a full bar with widescreen tv, tote unit and complimentary teas, coffees and snacks. “We run sweeps, with €6,000 in prizes, for members throughout the week on selected races and we have a racing personality in attendance to ‘mark your card’ each day too. There is also a special draw for members during the week, with 10 prizes of €100 each to be won. “Our membership normally closes on Friday and we would love to hear from new members. Our secretary, Con McCarthy, one of the best in the business, will take new members on 068 21622 - we look forward to a good week’s racing.” In addition to the offers to members, the Supporters Club also gives €100 to the groom in charge of best turned out horse in the races they sponsor and also provide a presentation to the owner of winning horse.
